This is the latest column by Joanne Martin, the President of the Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis. Our Building After a meeting with our treasurer and our new auditor, it was decided by the board of directors to pay off our mortgage. So, now the building belongs to us. However, we are investigating the possibility of having an elevator installed. This will be an expensive proposition and, Mary Beth Oberlin, has been very helpful in this endeavor by providing us with updated architectural plans and names of people to help us accomplish this. We will keep you posted. October Show Report The October 2011 show didn't do as well as previous shows, but we added almost $4,000 to our account including over $1,000 raised by the silent auction. Marian Oborsh and Darlene Carter did a great job running the auction and the entertainment. Thanks gals! We all want to thank you for all for your donations AND your bidding at the auction. The members only gift was won by Sarah Klingbeil. Our anonymous donor again donated two $50
shopping spree certificates and T&D Miniatures donated several gift
certificates that were awarded during the dinner/auction. The special gift was
won by Thanks to Pauline Cousins for doing such a fine job on coordinating the volunteers. The volunteer gift was a pumpkin pie made by Mary Wrenn. Thanks gals so very much. We appreciate everyone's help so much. We just couldn't do it without YOU. The exhibit room had some great exhibits. We appreciate you taking the time to bring and set up your wonderful exhibits. Joan Schlager organized the exhibits and made a Halloween chest for the exhibitors. Thanks Joan! Bertholdi Liberty Pin The Red Hat Mini-Makers visited the studio of the artist, Don Wiegand in November. While there, he presented the museum with a label pin featuring Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi's world famous status of Liberty Enlightening the World. We were honored to receive this pin and we invite the museum members to be sure to see it the next time they visit the museum Donations Magazines, dollhouses, furniture, accessories and other donations have been made by: Lois Apetz Monetary donations were made by: In memory of Judy Wiegand's
Mother: Bev Boyer, Mary Wrenn, and We want to thank you all for your generous donations. If we have omitted anyone we want to apologize. Please let Fay know (314) 261-7439 (email FZerb@aol.com) and she will rectify this in the next newsletter. Remember, we are an all-volunteer organization and no salaries are paid. Therefore, 100% of the funds go directly to the museum and donations are tax deductible. We appreciate each and every donation. Volunteers Becky Niethammer has asked that I ask our members to please let her know if any of you can help us our with our staffing of the museum. We need more volunteers As I know you are aware, one volunteer works with one board member on each day the museum is open. Remember, you can work as LITTLE or as MUCH as your schedule will allow. Even one day a month will help me fill our calendar. I know it is especially difficult for volunteers during the holiday season, and we really appreciate you taking time from their own preparations to help us. Volunteering at the museum is very "low-key." You'll be given a brief training session by the board member on duty. You can bring your own project to work on in case the museum isn't busy while you are there. Becky will be so happy to hear from you. Her phone number is (314) 830-3669 and her email is bnkat13@aol.com. Museum Classes Joe Zerbolio & O.T. Cousin are going to teach a class on lighting dollhouses or miniature projects. See the next article in this newsletter. If anyone is interested in teaching a class, please notify Fay Zerbolio (314) 261-7439 or email her at FZerb@aol.com and we'll set up your class in the museum classroom on the day of your choice. We would like to publicize this in the January show flier, so if you have a class in mind, please let Fay know. Building Update & Other News Joe, O. T., and Dave have been busy working on the second floor. They have been busy lighting exhibits and dollhouses where the circuitry has failed. We've made a lot or progress, but still have a lot to do. We just moved the strip mall that the Hutchingson, KS, club gave us several years ago. It is a great piece. We had to do some repair work, but it is looking good. Hopefully, it will be able to be seen one day soon. They have also lit a few pieces on the first floor—the Designer House, and the exhibit cabinet next to the Old Cathedral. The new lighting makes a world of difference. New Exhibits The museum is now decorated for Christmas and the holiday exhibits are now on display. We have some new exhibits on display, so be sure to plan a visit to the museum to see them. Kay & Judy have decorated the Delor windows with a holiday scene. It is so festive. Thanks gals! Remember that you can get a gift certificate in any amount at the gift shop for that gift for a fellow miniaturist for the holidays, birthday, or other special occasion. In addition, check out the items in the gift shop. You never know what treasure you'll find. Many donated items are no longer available commercially and you may happen across JUST the thing you didn't know you needed! Comments or questions: e-mail FZerb@aol.com |
