PRE-REGISTERED WORKSHOPS

When registering, it is important that you indicate your second choices. Some teachers will come only for a minimum of students. Should your first choice be cancelled for lack of enrollment, we will do our best to give you your second choice.

Workshop registration deadline: MARCH 31, 2012. After deadline, contact Linda Gearhart (636) 296-2079 (e-mail: llgear@sbcglobal.net) for class availability. Confirmation of registration for classes and supplies needed for class will be sent by APRIL 6, 2012.

Lunch will be available at the hotel restaurant and not in connection with the classes.

FRIDAY DINNER/AUCTION:  Join us for the dinner/silent auction.  Your dinner price includes your admission to the sales room for both Saturday and Sunday.  There will be drawings awarding gift certificates and other surprises.  Everyone attending receives a special gift for attending.  Choose an entree of chicken or pork.  If you have special dietary needs, please contact Linda Gearhart (636) 296-2079 (e-mail:  llgear@sbcglobal.net).  Cocktails at 6:15 p.m., dinner served at 7:00 p.m.  Dinner for a museum member is $30.00 and $32.00 for a non-member.

If you are planning to stay at the hotel , to get the special rate of $79 single or double you must register no later than MARCH 13, 2012 AND be sure to mention THE GATEWAY MINIATURE FAIR when you make your reservation.  For reservations, call 1-636-532-5000.

If you are flying in and need transportation to the hotel, there is a shuttle available for a fee.  Arrangements must be made with the hotel two days in advance.  

The ballroom rental fee is dependent on the number of sleeping rooms rented.  In order for the museum to get credit for YOUR room rental, make sure you tell the hotel you are coming to the Gateway Miniature Fair.  We appreciate your help by staying at the hotel to help in our fund-raising efforts for the Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis.

1.  1" SCALE "HOT SUMMER SPECIAL."  Students will complete a patio pot by making snapdragons, larkspur, dusty miller, and sweet alyssum.

2.  1/4" SCALE WITCHES SUPPLY STAND.  Students will make a stand that holds supplies a witch would need for spells and potions:  canning jars of potions, brooms, bowls, books, and paper and ink.  There are extra items in the kits, including the canning jars and wrapping supplies for the customers' purchases.

3.  1/4" SCALE COLONIAL HOUSE.  This building inspired by a house in St. Charles, is 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 6" tall.  The textured brick outer covering is sticky-backed paper.  All pieces are pre-cut.  Student will do all the assembly in the workshop.  Not pictured is an extension on the front where objects can be placed.

4.  1" SCALE JEWELRY ARMOIRE.  Students will learn to design, assemble and create jewelry:  rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings, gold and/or silver with and without tiny gemstones, crystals and pearls.  A cherry wood armoire will be given to each student and enough jewelry supplies provided for a generous display of jewelry to fill the armoire.

5.  1" SCALE TEA COZY.  Students will learn to make a tea cozy.  The pattern, needles, thread, and teapot will be furnished.

6.  1" SCALE GRACEFUL LADY'S CHAIR.  Students will upholster a chair for the desk or vanity.  They will pin, drape, iron, gather, and glue contrasting fabrics to make this great looking chair.

7.  1" SCALE PECANS, MINTS, AND PECAN PIE.  Students will learn to make pecans and starlight mints and fill tinks with the candy.  They will also learn to make a pecan pie.

8.  1/4" SCALE FLORIST SHOP OR ICE CREAM PARLOR.  Students will assemble several basic fixtures for their choice of either a floral shop or an ice cream parlor.  The ice cream parlor kits are a preparation counter, sales counter, ice cream counter, and shake machine.  Included are 2 tables, 6 chairs (black & white) and ice cream cones that are already made.  The florist shop kits are a workstation/counter with rolls of ribbon, a refrigerator for flowers, tall shelves, wreath and geraniums.  Also included is an finished hydrangea and contrainers to fill with a wide variety of dried foilage.  Please indicate floral shop or ice cream parlor on your registration.  Please note the picture is taken inside the Colonial House, Class #3.

12.  1" SCALE ORCHID PAINTING.  We are enjoying the orchid show at the Missouri Botanical Garden and we see some beautiful lavender odontoglossum orchids.  Their five petals beam like lavender stars.  Students will create a miniature oil painting on canvas which is mounted in a miniature frame.  Skills taught:  how to mix color, layering techniques with oil paint, and subject composition tips.

13.  1" SCALE PECANS, MINTS, AND PECAN PIE.

See class description and picture, Class #7.

14. USING LEDs TO LIGHT MINIATURES.   Compared to Standard 12 VBAC incandescent lights, LEDs use lots less power, generate almost no heat, and if correctly installed, burn much longer.  However, LEDs require DC power where polarity (+vs-) is critical and require a current-limiting resistor.  The class will learn how to set up and wire LEDs, some suggestions for mounting, and how to incorporate them into existing 12 VAC systems using either diodes or AC to DC converting bridges.  Sources for all parts and supplies will also be distributed.  Soldering iron is not needed for students, though teacher will use one for demonstration.
